The Cayce Fire Department responded to a fire at a church early Thursday morning.
According to a news release, the department was called to a structure fire at Trinity Baptist Church (located at 2003 Charleston Hwy.) at 1:44 a.m.
“As firefighters arrived, smoke was seen coming out of the building,” the statement noted. “Firefighters entered the building and were able to contain and extinguish the fire.”
The Cayce Fire Department requested mutual aid from Lexington County and additional resources from Batesburg-Leesville to fight the blaze.
“There is minimal damage to the building,” the church reports in a post on its Facebook page. “We appreciate your concerns and will update you as we have more information. We ask that you stay off campus at this time.”
The church is closed while an investigation is underway, the statement from the Cayce Fire Department said, explaining that this is normal procedure for a church fire. Cayce Police Department; the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; and the state Law Enforcement Division are also involved in the investigation.
The Cayce Fire Department asks anyone with information about the fire to call Crimestoppers at 888-CRIMESC.
