MANSFIELD TOWNSHIP — The Mansfield Remembrance Committee will hold its annual summer ecumenical service at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
The old pump organ will once again accompany many favorite hymns and gospel songs. Lay Minister Nancy Reese of St. Rose Catholic Church in Channing will officiate.
The committee invites all who wish to attend and hopes they will stay for fellowship and lunch after the service.
No admission is ever charged, but a voluntary offering will be made to help with expenses. This will be an outdoor service, weather permitting, so attendees are asked to bring a lawn chair.
Hundreds of people visit this unique historic log church each year and express their gratitude to all who helped rebuild and maintain the only church Mansfield has ever known in its 132 year history. .
Those who arrive early can take a tour and learn a bit of the history of the church located near the Michigamme River in the “Old Mansfield” location.
Directions to this historic landmark are as follows: Exit M-69 onto Mansfield Cut-Off Road, which is approximately 4 miles east of Crystal Falls and approximately 6 miles west of Sagola. Continue to the fork, then turn left onto Stream Road. The church can be seen from the road half a mile away. The church is also listed as a site on the Iron County Heritage Trail.
