A civic service at Glossop Parish Church of All Saints for the placing of the former Glossop branch standard of the Royal British Legion and the unveiling of the new branch standard is taking place this weekend. end.
It takes place on Sunday, September 4 at 3:30 p.m.
The Reverend Norman Shaw, Glossop Branch Chaplain, said: “The Standard is a constant symbolic reminder to members of the Royal British Legion of the Legion’s motto ‘Service Not Self’. The colors of the standard are blue and gold: blue for loyalty and fidelity and gold for service “as gold is tried by fire”, a reminder of those who gave their lives for our country.
“The Union Flag in the left corner symbolizes unity, chivalry and loyalty to sovereign, community and nation. The local branch name appears on the gold band.”
The service includes hymns, a Bible reading, speech and prayers. Everyone is welcome to attend this special service.
The Parish Church of All Saints in Glossop has been the site of Christian worship since the 11th century. The current structure is the result of a reconstruction program that began in 1831 to replace a late medieval building and was completed in 1924 with the dedication of the choir.
