When you arrive

To access the indoor play area, simply walk through the front doors and hang to the right. A member of staff is usually there to greet you and show you around the play area (and offer you a latte, if you’re lucky!). Church staff work during play area opening hours but are happy to take the time to show you around.

The indoor play area may be smaller than others you’ll find at churches in the area, but it’s full of fun. The room resembles an indoor climbing area reminiscent of those once found in fast food joints. Children are invited to take off their shoes (remember to wear socks) and to climb as they please.

Children can climb and slide on the indoor playground at Copper Creek Church.

Tucked under the climbing structure is a dedicated toddler area. Toddlers will enjoy the play kitchen, table and chairs, and kids’ cleaning supplies. To the left of the climbing structure is a playhouse and lots of soft blocks for kids to move, build and climb. A few benches provide seating for caregivers and a locker gives children a place to store their shoes while they play.

A full play kitchen is tucked under the play area for toddlers.

Do you have a tiny one? Bring them along, because right next to the indoor play area is a baby and toddler daycare, also open to community members. The nursery has lots of toys and books suitable for babies and toddlers. Keep in mind that no playroom is staffed, so parents should stay with their little ones.

The little ones will enjoy the nursery at Copper Creek Church, which is also open for play during playtime.

Overall, the Copper Creek Church Indoor Playground is a hidden gem in the Champaign-Urbana community. Although smaller than some other indoor playgrounds, the welcoming staff members and unique climbing structure more than make up for the size of the rooms. The next time it’s too hot, too humid, too cold, or you just want to try something else, make sure this new indoor playground is on your bucket list.
