Police are looking for a suspect who ordered a woman out of her car at gunpoint and stole her vehicle moments after leaving Grayslake church on Sunday.

The Grayslake Police Department responded at approximately 12:10 p.m. Sunday at the 200 block of Harding Street in Grayslake to an armed vehicle hijacking call report.

Grayslake Police Chief Phil Perlini told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that a woman had just left St. Gilbert’s Catholic Church, 301 East Belvidere Road.

The woman crossed the street and got into her car, which was parked near Harding Street and Belvidere Road opposite the church.

Perlini said a suspect approached the victim’s vehicle, opened the car door and displayed a gun.

The suspect, an Asian male described as tall, thin and between the ages of 17 and 19, ordered the woman out of the vehicle.

The victim obeyed by getting out of his vehicle and the suspect drove in and drove the car eastbound on Route 120 from the scene, Perlini said.

The victim was not injured in the incident.

The woman’s vehicle, a Toyota Camry, was later found parked and unoccupied in a parking lot at an apartment complex in Waukegan.

Several witnesses have been interviewed and Grayslake Police detectives are actively working on the case, Perlini said.
